Girl up is an equal idealist group at Coral Glades that inspires girls to take pride in themselves. According to the United Nations website, “Girl’s Up, a campaign of the United Nations Foundation that gives American girls the opportunity to channel their energy and compassion to raise awareness and funds for programs of the United Nations that help some of the world’s hardest-to-reach adolescent girls.” CGHS encourages all our students to strive to make a change, and that is what this group made for. “We work on educating our members on different issues that relate to gender equity while providing them leadership opportunities, and objectives to complete community service projects,” advisor Angela Andriesse said.
Recently, Schools worldwide have encountered an issue where girls are not discarding their feminine products properly. It’s become an issue in the many places because it is unhygienic, as well as overall not ideal for the environment. Ms. Andriesse, in which she state her opinion on the matter, said that “Girl’s Up was asked to make posters to promote girls to dispose of their waste correctly. Be courteous about the menstrual products and how to dispose of them.” This was a smart choice because some girls struggle with certain matters. It exposes girls to the idea of leadership in our community and it provides us with a path to follow to make us better.
Members of Girl’s Up took action to put up posters in girls bathroom’s, showing them how to properly dispose and discard used feminine products. It is detailed enough to show girls step-by-step on how to toss out their products correctly.
Girl’s Up take the uttermost urge to continue educating girls to take satisfaction in who they are and to be proud of their accomplishments.
