With the school year almost coming to a close with only 6 months left in the school year, it is important to make sure you are on track to graduate.
Sometimes distractions can come easy but it is important to check via virtual counselor or meet with your grade counselor. When you go onto virtual counselor, it will let you know whether you are on track to graduate.
If it says you are not on track to graduate, it is vital that you schedule an appointment with your counselor so that everything is resolved. Oftentimes your counselor will sign you up for FLVS, which is an online school where you can complete your work at your own pace.
Sometimes it is just as simple as completing service hours. Although service hours are easy to earn, it is important that you do not place it on the back burner of your mind because, without the completion of at least 40 hours, you cannot graduate.
If that is the case there are multiple service hours opportunities in and out of school. In school, oftentimes teachers and administrators will give out service hours for doing certain tasks.
Some clubs offer service hours for school clean-up. Culinary offers service hours for after-school sales and straight-A breakfast.
If you are in need of service hours, ask your teacher for service hours opportunities. If you are off track for graduation because of a lack of understanding for a subject, there are some opportunities for after-school tutoring, or try looking up lessons for the subject you need help with on YouTube. Never give up if you are struggling in any of your classes.
If possible, get your parents involved to encourage you to stay on track. A parent, Randy Liburd said, “Let’s discuss to see if you are on track to graduate when you get home.” Having someone to push you to do your best academically will greatly benefit you.
There are always opportunities for success, cherish every opportunity you get. Destiny Liburd grade 11 when asked to give her opinion about tracking your graduation credits stated “I make sure me, my teachers, and counselors are on the same page and see me graduating in the future.” Her statement speaks volumes as it showcases her mindset about her future.
