I know there are a lot of seniors who don’t feel like they’re being challenged enough to get ready for college in their last year of high school. They’d be glad to know that there is a way to take college classes while they’re in high school. This opportunity is called dual enrollment .
Taking Dual enrollment means you can still be in high school and take college classes and if you pass the class, you get the college credit.
Some of the eligibility requirements to actually sign up for dual enrollment are you must be in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, you must have at least a 3.0 unweighted GPA, and demonstrate that you are ready to take on this college-level workload through what classes you are taking or have previously taken or your SAT or ACT scores.
Now there are a couple of places where you can take these dual enrollment classes, however, the ones that are closest to Coral Glades and are most frequently applied at are Broward College and Florida Atlantic University or FAU.
“I took two classes online through Broward College and it was a very good choice for me to make. It is very difficult but I believe that it will prepare me for college this year,” says Daniela Rubio, a Senior.
Even though these might be close to you, make sure that you go onto their website and look at the available courses for that school year because the courses that you might want to take may not be eligible there at the school.
Before you start getting ahead of yourself, there is one step that you need to take before you can even apply for a dual class. It is called the Accuplacer test. This test will determine if you have enough skill in math or reading to take the class or classes that you would like to.
Another plus to dual enrollment is that it is free, so you save a lot of money if you take college classes while you’re in high school.
Everybody deals with having to pay for college one way or another, so getting some knocked out when you are in high school will just help you better your future.
