The Last Week for Seniors

This week has been a mix of emotions for the seniors. On one handthere’s a lot of happiness because the most anticipated moment for everyone is almost here: graduation, the day when the seniors will start new lives to fulfill their dreams. But on the other hand, there are also many feelings of sadness due to farewells. Many are leaving the city to attend university, and long-time friendships are going to separate. It’s hard to say goodbye to the place where they’ve spent the last four years.

Senior Spirit Week was incredible. On Monday, the seniors dressed as their future careers and could spend the day with their favorite teachers. On Tuesday, everyone dressed according to their grade: 9th graders as babies, 10th graders as teens, 11th graders as middle-aged, and 12th graders as senior citizens. On Wednesday, the seniors wore their college shirts. Thursday was Twin Day, where everyone coordinated outfits with their best friends, and finally, Friday was Color War, with each grade proudly wearing their designated color.

“I am very happy because, in the end, I am going to fulfill my dream since I entered high school to graduate, but on the other hand my heart feels sad to say goodbye to my best friends, we will try to keep in touch but it will be more difficult now that we will be separated,” said Sara Giraldo, senior.

One of the most anticipated days is the last Friday of classes before exams. The seniors spend most of the day with their friends, pulling pranks. This year, the students started the day by arriving at school in pajamas with signs that said “Senior Prank” and “Class of 2024 Out.” At noon, they had a barbecue with water balloons, leaving everyone soaked, including Dr. Kaplan.

To end the week, one of the most fun events of the year took place: the Senior Pep Rally. There were many games and dances. The seniors say goodbye to everything and pass their crown to the juniors, and at that moment, the juniors move to the opposite side to finally be named seniors.

“I am very sad because all my senior friends are about to leave, I had great times with them and I don’t want to say goodbye, on the other hand, I am happy to start my last year in high school,” said Eduardo Villarraga, junior.
