Downfall of Cable: Up rise of Streaming or Cable 2.0

Back in the 2000s or 2010s, the era of streaming only rose with Netflix, one of the biggest streaming platforms of the time. However, as times began to change streaming has become mainstream and at times far more common than going to a theater.

The root cause: Covid-19. While it took the world by storm, streaming was no exception. Streaming services such as Disney +, Hulu, HBO Max, and many more began to rise in popularity and demand.

However, this transition left cable in a tight spot. On one hand, it was still popular but on the other hand, it began to slowly fade away from mainstream media.

Eventually, it came to a point where multiple cable services went bankrupt as a fault. While not necessarily their fault, times were changing and they only went downhill from there.

In 2022, the merger between HBO Max and Discovery made the app called Max. Nothing seems wrong at first until one sees the changes.

Many shows, movies, and shorts that were in popular demand such as Infinity Train were canceled or taken off the platform. This made the demand for physical media more prevalent than ever and with executives having such power, they realized what they could do.

In addition, prices for these streaming services went higher till the point where audiences could no longer afford them. Yet, they still questioned why they lost thousands or millions of dollars and made more reckless, illogical plans for these companies and services.

Most notably, workers were fired left and right, being seen as an extra expense to be paid. Executives only see the logic in soulless behavior. Logic thrives on the emotion behind it which allowed human innovation to exist in the first place.

Without innovation, all progress undergone by humanity would be lost. With the demand for technology and the increasing use of AI, it’s hard for some to see such ideals at all.

Even then, Disney, Hulu, and Max are merging to form a new streaming platform for all users’ needs. However, the price will only go up, making the executives blinded to human truth behind robotic lies.

“Well, honestly I like streaming for the simple fact that that allows you to get multiple TV shows and movies and one platform and I believe it changed a lot of overtime. If you look at it not a lot of people don’t run cable people run a lot more just streaming services like I do in my house. You know we don’t have cable we have Internet, but we have everything like Disney+, etc.. HBO Max streaming service that allows them to get everything that they want”. David Cruz, a junior states regarding his relationship with streaming overriding cable.

Essentially, if all streaming services merge, it will be the return of cable yet again. Rather than letting errors pass by, it’s vital to acknowledge them before times grow darker.

Mattering most are the people, those who make these projects day in and out and put more effort into these projects. Many today forget real people exist behind the screen, working for their vision to be made and promised.

If not for that, our world in the entertainment industry would not be the same as we know it today. Rather than firing those with high promises, innovation, and creativity, it should be spread and cherished by all even if some may be questionable by the public. It matters to be heard and rise to those in store.

Jaydon Smith,  junior explained, “I believe that streaming is a very useful invocation that allows a wider spread of creative bodies. And I use it to watch everything I need to rather than on cable. I think over time streaming services have become more stingy and money-oriented however it is not because of pride or greed but because of the overarching fear of inflation so streaming services that become more expensive more limited and more scarce in terms of specific films. So yes, I believe streaming is next cable as more kids growing up these days will introduce their offspring to streaming services instead of cable. But I pirate my film if the costs are unjust”.

At the end of the day, if the people are heard by the money-guided executives, they can show them what must be done and what they want instead of such irrational choices being held by corrupted minds. If done, the people can save an industry so lost in the past that so many rely on for generations.
