The Class of 2024- What they mean to me
Seniors, where do I even begin with you guys? Your guidance and leadership, along with your trust and kindness made your class special, especially for me. The bonds I created with your guy’s trust mean the world to me. I will list some notable seniors and their impact on my high school experience.
Jaden Julio Torres, I included your middle name because I have the authority to be a senior now! You have taught me everything about being a good friend, and the definition of kindness. Thank you for making my junior year 100 times better. Sophia Herrera, you have taught me everything I know about being a writer and journalist, my writing was very shaky before you taught me, but now it’s alright. Thank you.
It truly is sad to see you all go, and it will be a hard change not seeing you all in school. But to the class of 2024, I know you will all do great things in the future.
Testing! So Exciting
The SAT, ACT, AP, AICE, and all these stupid abbreviations have made my junior year my hardest year of high school yet. I have taken the SAT two times and did relatively well both times, but nowhere near my goal of getting into my dream college. I am going to gatekeep my score, which is NOT getting revealed in this. ACT, on the other hand, I did not do so well on it, I wanted to take it just to get a glimpse of standardized assessments like that, and I got an 18 on my first try without preparing.
AICE is easily my favorite abbreviation out of all of them because of money! Completing seven AICE credits you get the Bright Futures scholarship, which either pays for 75%, or 100% tuition to a Florida school. Hopefully, I’ll get the AICE diploma this year. If I pass everything, I’m getting that moolah.
But AP, I hate with a passion. Junior year is my first time taking AP, and I heavily dislike it. AP Precalculus is hard, like unnecessarily hard. I got a C in both the third and fourth quarters and failed the AP exam for sure.
College in one year- that’s scary
There’s a lot of preparation needed to prepare for college. I am starting to think about my college essay and applications. I know I want to go to a school in Florida, my options consist of Florida State, the University of Florida, the University of Central Florida, and the University of South Florida, hopefully, I get into one or more of those schools.
My two top options are FSU and USF. Two of my cousins are currently enrolled at Florida State and I have family in Tampa that work on campus. So that would be nice to have that flexibility and people to go to if I get into either of those colleges.
I am also taking a Dual Enrollment class next year at Broward College for a GPA boost, and to also get familiar with what a college class is, and how different it is to high school. In the fall I will be enrolled in ENC1101.
Final Summer
I am starting to realize how significant my junior year is, and how it’s the last of many things. Including last summer. I don’t plan on doing much this summer except for working and going to the gym. I’m going to be locked into both of those things.
Hopefully, I can go out to eat with some of my friends and hang out in my free time. I’ll be glad if I can hang out with a couple of my senior friends too, though we might be friends for life, it will be farewell for a long time.
Am I excited to step up? Yes and no. I am nervous to find out what next year holds, but I am excited to begin my future and become a senior. Hopefully, I won’t be a super-senior.
