“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” is a new PG-13 sequel to the Beetlejuice movie that is coming to theaters on September 6th. The first movie “Beetlejuice,” came out in 1988, and it is now being revamped with this sequel. This sequel is set in the same place as the original movie, which is in Winter River, modern times. 

After a family tragedy, the Deetz family returns to their old hometown Winter River where Lydia is still being haunted by Beetlejuice. Lydia’s daughter Astrid, a rebellious teenager, wonders about and finds a portal to the afterlife. When his name is said three times, Beetlejuice returns only to cause miserable chaos. 

Many people are talking about how the star of “Wednesday,” Jenna Ortega, is a new cast member of this upcoming sequel. “Jenna is cool I like all the movies she’s been in, and I’d like to see what she can do next,” Kristopher Dale, a freshman said.  

In addition to having Jenna Ortega as Astrid, other new cast members are Willem Dafoe as Wolf Jackson, Monica Bellucci as Delores, Beetlejuice’s ex-wife, and Justin Theroux as Rory, Lydia’s husband. All these new characters are a wide variety of ideas from the director Tim Burton.  

While it will be interesting to see how these new characters add to this exciting film, the returning cast that started the film consists of Micheal Keaton as Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder as Lydia, and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz.  

The director of this sequel, Tim Burton, is a director, producer, and animator. He is also responsible for the first Beetlejuice movie in 1988. Tim Burton explains why this second movie is coming out 36 years later. He says how the sequel is not something he could have done back then because he did not have any experience with the things that he knew his character Lydia would go through. “It’s only something you could do once you experience those things yourself.” Tim Burton said. He believes this movie could not have happened without him having his personal growth.  

Other films and TV Tim Burton directed are Wednesday, Batman, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, all of which are very iconic and well-known. “I think his movies are one of a kind, there is none quite like them. I love his writing and art style. My favorite art by Tim Burton is Beetle Juice. I love how his style is instilled into the music and even the characters themselves,” Ashira Fernandez said.

Considering all these past creations of his, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” should be a fun experience that again, is coming out to theaters on September 6th.
