A large part of the high school experience is being on a school sports team or participating in a school club. Being involved in a team or a club provides a lot of exciting opportunities like going on field trips and participating in different events. However, this can be costly and not all students can afford to pay for these events. One way to lower these expenses is to fundraise. Fundraising is the act of seeking financial support for a charity or cause.
There are various ways to raise funds for an event, including out-of-school activities and in-school activities. The out-of-school activities vary, but two major out-of-school activities are restaurant events and car washes. At a restaurant event, a club or class will ask a business such as Pasquale’s Italian Restaurant if they can come in at a specific time and day to raise money. Both the school and restaurant will get a portion of the sales that are made during that time. Many people like to go to food events because they get to have a good meal and contribute to the community at the same time. Car wash events are also a favorite of many because they leave with a clean car. Sal Pecchio, a Coral Springs resident, says, “I love getting my car cleaned for a good cause and at a decent price.”
Former Coral Glades student Lia Sorrentino says throughout her High School years, “I did many fundraisers, but my personal favorite was the double good popcorn one.” She said she “loved how many different flavors there were and always made sure to buy a bag for myself.” Double Good Popcorn is one of the many ways the students raise money. Double good popcorn is a company with the sole goal of fundraising. This is one of the best ways to fundraise nationwide as they recently just raised 100 million dollars in a year.
An in-school fundraiser that is currently happening at Coral Glades is students selling chocolates for a price of $2 per bar varying in different flavors from wafer, caramel, milk chocolate and almond. This is a consistent favorite among the students for a sweet little treat in between classes with most of the proceeds going to the club or team.
Fundraisers where someone benefits with either a product or service tend to be the most liked and raise the most funds, as opposed to a fundraiser that is only asking for money donations. The goal of fundraisers are not only to make profits, they are also a great learning experience for further events later on in your life. They can be a great way to make connections and new friends that have the same interests as you.
