The Miami Dolphins end their debut week with a 1-0 after a dramatic, last-minute comeback from a 14-0 Jaguar lead to 17-20 in the Dolphin’s favor, mainly because of Tyreek Hill’s game-changing 80-yard touchdown. Hill finished the day with seven receptions for a team-leading 130 yards. However, only 3 hours before Tyreek Hill found himself handcuffed and put face down on the pavement in a now-viral video. Just outside Hard Rock Stadium. Calais Campbell, another Dolphins player, was also placed in handcuffs.
“I think how the police treated him was unfair.” Quoted Blake Belmont, a sophomore.
A body camera video released Monday by the Miami-Dade Police Department, a combined 105 minutes and 33 seconds.
The footage shows a police officer approaching Hill’s car and knocking on the window after he instructed Hill to pull over. The officer knocked on Hill’s window and told him to put it down, which Hill did, and handed him his driver’s license.
“Hey, don’t knock on my window like that,” Hill repeated.
“Just give me my ticket, bro, so I can go. I am going to be late. Do what you gotta do,” Hill told the officer while putting his tinted window back up.
Hill told CNN later why he rolled his widow up and cited concern about drawing unwanted attention to himself.
The officer threatens to make Hill get out of the car if he doesn’t keep the window down, and then immediately orders him out. Another officer opens Hill’s car door and starts to pull him out of the car, saying, “Get out!” while Hill responds, “I’m getting out.”
The officer tells him it’s too late and both officers drag Hill out of his car, A Black McLaren, and to the pavement.
“I feel like Tyreek Hill getting arrested in front of his game was unfair.” Said Justinia Winchester, a Senior. “He’s already out of traffic, he’s already at this destination.’’
In a CNN interview later Monday night, the NFL star said he was “embarrassed” and “shell-shocked” by the situation.
Calais Campbell, (38) was also handcuffed when trying to discuss the situation with officers at the scene, according to police. He recalled on ESPN how he arrived at the scene of Hill’s detention and tried to diffuse the situation.
After the bodycam footage was released, the Miami Dolphins released a three-paragraph statement saying “the overly aggressive and violent conduct directed towards Tyreek Hill, Calais Campbell, and Jonnu Smith by police officers.”
Tyreek Hill has since called for the Miami police officer who detained and handcuffed him after a routine traffic stop to be fired.
In a CNN interview later Monday night, Hill said he was “embarrassed” and “shell-shocked” by the situation.
