Childhood events shape young minds into perspectives that may last a lifetime. One of the most prevalent is a child’s mindset of school.
Most children at a young age are provided with teachers who do not suit the student’s learning needs. As a result, the student in question may grow a dislike of the school environment.
As the students grow up, they may experience teachers who may speak about more grown-up topics. As a result, students are exposed to the real world or may indulge in questions they should not know until a later point in life.
Due to said teachings, a student’s perspective becomes firm and by adulthood is permanently settled into the minds of students. Such a hateful perspective is challenging to change, but not impossible.
A student’s mind may be shaped by a teacher’s most memorable experience. Whether they are in elementary, middle, or high, a student may change their concept of learning.A common status of learning is seen as a place of “boredom,” “hate,” or “fear.” However, a student would believe in such a mindset due to mistreatment and non eager teachers.
A teacher can shape a student’s mindset. Most would argue with students over silly matters and as a result, students do not expect any more or less from teachers.
A good teacher would want to teach in the classroom, not just for a higher-than-average paycheck. A good teacher will walk through their lessons with the least or sharpest student on their academic journey. A good teacher will be patient and only serve disciplinary actions to students who truly deserve a consequence.
A good teacher at a young age may make students learn to like or, at minimum, respect school. Too many students already struggle from out-of-school issues such as family, friends, pets, or emotional issues. A good teacher eases their students and will talk to them about anything.
Sadly, such a teacher can rarely be found due to the hate and greed the teacher may receive from their profession. A true teacher will only dive into their career since they choose to and aren’t forced or felt to make a choice they will not see themselves doing in the coming years. A true teacher shares their love of learning with the next generation for years to come.
A teacher may shape a mind of today by affecting their perspective of learning. Students share their learning experiences, both good and bad, about their learning perspectives and lives.
“She was funny, nice, and she read stories to us and we read story times during class. It’s not heavy laden, it was very relaxing. When I think about a good teacher, I don’t do it all the time but not everything made me laugh, but she did.” Nathanael Blanco, a sophomore, talks about his experience with his elementary teacher.
“Horrible, they never made me want to come to school again. I never understood much in that class. The people in the classroom were horrible, especially at 7 in the morning. They were all annoying in general, always rowdy, never quiet. It’s a lot like it now, but it always happens in math. It has toned down since, but it still happens every now and then.” Allyson Silva, a sophomore, talked about her experiences with students and teachers in the classroom.
Teachers shape the minds of tomorrow, instead of hatred, they should share love found in their career and choice or reason of career with students. Students find it so challenging to find the right teacher, but to shape a future mind is to shape the present. So, if it were addressed more in the modern day, a question lingers in the young and old: “If they were given the chance, shouldn’t a teacher try to love?”
