Dequantes Lamar, professionally known as “Rich Homie Quan” and “RHQ” was an American rapper who tragically passed away September 5th, 2024.
Rich Homie Quan is originally from Atlanta, Georgia, and was born October 4, 1989. Quan’s career started in 2011, and during 2013 his song “Type of Way” went overboard hitting number 50 on the billboard of Hot 100.
He was nominated for various BET Hip Hop awards, including Best New Artist and Best Club Banger, in 2014 and 2015. Quan was also nominated for iHeartRadio Music Awards’ Hip Hop Song of the Year in 2016.
His rise to fame is a testament to his unique style and perseverance in the music industry. Not only does his music contain rap and hip-hop, but it blends with contemporary sounds, creating a well-defined voice that resonates with his fan-base.
Quan’s journey to fame wasn’t simple. He initially wanted to pursue a career in baseball but turned to music. According to Quan, “Baseball was cool but in the back of my mind, I want to rap. As I started to get older I realized that the percentage of black men in MLB was very small.” Instead of pursuing his career, he chose not to attend Fort Valley State and followed his true love and passion for music.
In 2012, he released a mixtape called “Still Goin In”, which featured the hit single “Type Of Way”. The song’s success launched Quan into the public eye, earning him a dedicated fan base.

Quan has stated that he wants to be known as someone who makes great music and inspires others to never give up on their dreams. He has also stated that although he has been through a lot, he wouldn’t change anything because it made him who he is today.
