With homecoming season arriving some events that may come to the mind of a student or teacher most people would think of are homecoming football games, team and school spirit week, and the homecoming dance. Walking down the halls some students may see creatively done posters of students advertising for votes to win either homecoming king queen or princess.
Students like Ava Rose, Antonella Medina, Cynthia Grant, and Paris Crooks have creatively made posters and hung them all around campus to advertise their efforts in how much they’d like to win and be crowned king, queen, or princess at the homecoming dance. Whether it’s including popular memes or social media sayings, runners need to draw attention from students and staff to gain popularity and votes to win.
“I think I deserve to win because how iconic would it be for a solo runner to be crowned and it worked for Queen Elizabeth and it worked twice. My posters are very relevant and up-to-date with the trends, open for anyone to laugh at. At the end of the day, it won’t matter in 5 years but it would be so cool for a conversation starter to be that I won homecoming queen in my senior year. Personally, I think that I’ve touched a lot of lives throughout my high school year and have put a large impact throughout others high school experiences. Everyone is my friend and I am welcoming to anyone looking for a friend. Vote Paris Crooks for homecoming queen of 2024.” Paris Crooks, senior homecoming queen runner.
Homecoming week consists of spirit week where students and staff creatively dress up to a certain theme whether it’s meme day, superhero day, jersey day, and grade colors. It’s all to contribute school spirit towards the upcoming homecoming football game and school homecoming dance where a king and queen are crowned.
“I love seeing all the posters around school, they’re all so creative with how they get their votes. I don’t know who’s gonna win, everyone’s amazing.” Jasmine Mata, a 9th grader.
Many students running for homecoming king or queen have very different reasons and motivations for wanting to run, some may include it’s for public image, for fun, or just for participation in school events. They may gain opportunities that many students cannot receive just by running or possibly winning homecoming queen, king, or princess.
