Eric Adams, the 110th current mayor of New York City, has now just been indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). His charges, according to the New York Times on September 26th, 2024, are as follows: “bribery, conspiracy, fraud and soliciting illegal foreign campaign donations.”
This comes as NYC is experiencing a multitude of problems, mainly from rampant crime, high cost of rent, high cost of food, high costs of other goods, high taxation, etc. Now Eric Adams has become NYC’s first indicted mayor in United States history.
Mayor Adams has pleaded not guilty to the charges, but why exactly is this happening to him? Well, the FBI claims he was given bribes from some Turkish Officials working for the Turkish Government.
In 2021, Adams was allegedly given free Turkish flights, fancy hotel rooms, and more, along with money from a Turkish construction firm, all so the Turkish Consulate could be built on First Avenue across from the United Nations building in NYC.
It would be opened around the same time the 2021 UN General Assembly occurred, making it seem very preplanned. The entire building cost 300 Million Dollars to build and was reported by Curbed New York, on September 26th, 2024, to have a multitude of fire safety concerns.
Also by Curbed, apparently the New York Fire Department may have been bribed into signing off on the building despite the apparent problems. It is currently being investigated whether Mayor Adams pressured the NYFD into signing it off in order to cash in on the Turkish funding.
However, Mayor Adams also claimed that the charges set against him were not only false, but political, and there is some evidence to back him up. Thanks to NYC’s crisis of non-stop migration to the city (since it’s considered a sanctuary city), Adams has complained that NYC can’t take this many migrants and isn’t receiving help from the democratic federal government and government of New York.
Adams is a Democrat, so logically you’d think his own party would help him, but that never occurred, so while speaking out against the federal and state governments, he began a process evicting migrants, sending them to other parts of the state, country, and world. Something that came only a few months before this investigation.
What’s also interesting is that Eric Adams gave P. Diddy holds a key to the city and are both currently being charged with crimes. That being said, the question that was asked to two students on the matter was “What do you think about the whole Eric Adams being indicted situation?” and Sammuel Rojas in the 11th grade said “Has he gone to a Diddy party? If so, he’s most likely related to Diddy” and Juan Llovet in the 11th grade said “He gave a sex trafficker a key, so it is reasonable to indict someone who’s been behind human trafficking with P. Diddy, it is justifiable that he is sentenced to it.”
Despite the timing, it’s seriously important to note that the biggest city in America has had its leader indicted. This could mean bad news for the Big Apple, considering they are home to America’s biggest firms, companies, etc. They even have Wall Street there, whatever it may be, hopefully this situation has a happy ending where New York City doesn’t fall into chaos any further than it already has.
