Brand new students walk into a brand new classroom, one thing that can automatically make students feel more comfortable and relaxed. When walking into a new classroom for the very first time whether you are a freshman or not can be nerve-racking. Especially if you don’t know anyone.
So with this being said you will automatically (whether you know you do this or not) look for anything in the room to make yourself realize that this is not going to be a horrible year, this year will be okay.
Which is where the decorations in the room can tell you a lot. If a teacher has nothing on the walls and the desk doesn’t have much then this may only add to a student’s fears, whereas, if the teacher’s classroom is fully decorated you can kind of tell that they will be more relaxed and welcoming.
Furthermore, when you see things in the classroom that you have either read about or watched or can relate to in any way then it calms you.
Daniella Concepcion, freshman, says, “I love it when teachers have their classrooms decorated. It makes me feel inspired and at ease.”
Miranda Infante, freshman, said, “Teachers’ classrooms being decorated make a big difference for me. It makes me feel relaxed and like I can understand what I’m learning better because I am relaxed.”
When the teachers decorate their classrooms, it can lead to overall better performance among students. The relaxed feeling makes them more attentive and gives them more of a reason to put forth effort into their school work.
Which in turn will help not only the student’s grade but it will help the teacher and the school. The more kids pay attention and participate the less time teachers will have to spend going over the same topic over and over again just so that the students will understand the topic.
More often than not students will agree that teachers’ classrooms being decorated makes the students feel more comfortable and relaxed. They said that it makes them feel at ease with the upcoming school year. Many also said that they could learn a lot about the teacher and teaching style based on the decor.
Overall, it is abundantly clear that having a well-decorated classroom can be a benefit for both the students and the teachers.
