Smile 2 is a new prequel to the 2022 ‘Smile’ movie that came out today in theaters. The first Smile movie is set in a hospital ward where a patient claims she is being terrorized by an entity that smiles at people and predicts her death, then mysteriously commits suicide. Smile had an audience rate of 77 percent and had amazing reviews.
Both of these movies are thriller and drama movies that are known for their horror. Smile Two is about a pop star Skye Riley, who is played by Naomi Scott, who ends up with the curse that shows her the entity that forces her to regain control of her life before it even falls apart. Fans even predict that Smile Two is better than Smile Two in ways like how it’s more entertaining, having bigger stakes for the characters, and inevitably more horrifying.
Smile Two was announced in December 2023, which is when Naomi Scott was cast as the leading role. Naomi Scott is very well known for her role as Jasmine in the 2019 live-action version of Disney’s Aladdin. She also starred in Charlie’s Angels as Elena Houghlin and in Power Rangers as the pink ranger.
More members of the cast consist of Kyle Gallner as Joel, Lukas Gage as Lewis, and Peter Jacobson as Morris. “They added a lot of new characters so it was very different but also fun and I’m glad they kept Joel in the new movie.” Said Aaliyah O’keefe, a freshman.
Parker Finn is the infamous director who wrote both of the Smile movies. He is blowing up even more as a director even after the release of his new sequel. Finn said in an interview that he needed to offer the audience of ‘Smile 2’ something unexpected and fresh if he wanted their time. “This idea of somebody so famous and public-facing, who’s always expected to be performing this persona, and has to greet the world with a smile despite whatever might be going on behind the scenes.” Parker Finn said about the initial idea for his new movie Smile 2.
Many people are taking the new Smile movies’ advertisement very seriously. It’s funny really, how much fans have fun with this new movie. Fans have been going to sports games and sitting on the bleachers to sit there and smile the entire time. They don’t react to anything and are wearing the same outfits. They have become very creative with the way they respond to the upcoming horror film. “That is hilarious. I wish I could’ve seen someone smiling like that at a game because that is great advertising for a movie.” Said Evan Hall, a freshman.
