With the Ukrainian war in a stalemate, Moscow and Kyiv are looking for anything to break the stalemate and make ground in order to end the war and come out victorious. That being said, Moscow has come out with one advantage.

The Russians have just received 10,000 North Korean soldiers to train and fight with them. Right now Ukraine has 9 hundred thousand active personnel with a further 1.2 million in reserve.

Compare that to Russia which has 1.32 million active personnel with a further 2 million in reserve, at least according to Statistica. The problem is that Russia needs more men because the war has devolved into trench warfare like it’s World War One.

So this contingent of North Korean troops will help out immensely to the struggling Russians. Now since they are only training, it’s very likely that Pyongyang and Moscow are currently trying to come to a deal which will involve North Korean troops in Ukraine.

This has come to a big shock to Washington and the Pentagon, which did not predict 10 thousand men from North Korea, but instead only 3 thousand. The Russians and North Korea, according to Newsweek on 10/28/2024, have signed a joint security pact in June of this year.

However, the Pentagon has been sounding alarms and has said that if Russia were to successfully incorporate these foreign troops into their frontline, it could lead to more international forces (mainly from North Korea since they have the largest army in the world) participating in the Ukrainian War.

However, Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister from Russia said that the calls for concern were unfounded since the West, like the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and the European Union (EU), have been helping Ukraine immensely throughout the entire war.

However, people in the United States should be able to respond about how this will make a difference in the conflict. That is why, when asked, Faisal Noor in the 11th grade said “Probably not, I mean this somehow turns into a full on world war then I’ll believe it this will probably be a small conflict it will end in a few months.” Brandon Colon in the 11th grade said “This is my honest opinion, this will make a massive difference outing Russia and North Korea together, that will be a huge powerhouse to Ukraine.”

In conclusion, the question is, will this make a difference? It depends on whether the North Korean forces are skilled enough to fight in the Ukrainian War, if Russia has the logistics to handle more men, and if they even want the extra soldiers. In any case, it seems like peace is far from reality.
