On November 6th, really early in the morning, Pennsylvania was declared for Trump and as considered by all news outlets and most of the general public watching the election, it was over. Trump won the election.
As of November 13th, 2024, according to AP News Trump won 312 electoral votes and 75,570,454 votes to Kamala Harris’s 226 electoral votes and 72,412,907 votes. Trump had a difference of 3,157,547 more votes.
Not only did Trump win, but it was a total victory for the entire Republican Party. In the Senate the Republicans won 53 seats to the Democrats 47 seats, 50 is all that’s needed for a majority. In the house, although it hasn’t currently been finished as of the writing of this article, they have called it a majority for the Republicans.
Again according to AP10 news, the Republicans won 217 seats in the House against the Democrat’s 207 seats, there are 11 still waiting to be called and most are looking to favor the Republicans, so the Republicans have already called this a victory as they believe they will safely secure more than 2 seats to secure a majority.
Finally, there were governor elections on November 5 that saw 11 states vote on their governor’s role, now even though no states flipped and they don’t particularly correlate, the Republicans had 27 governors in power to the Democrats’ 23 governors in power. Basically, it’s a good day for the Republicans.
But back to the Presidency, the Democratic Party and Kamala Harris reacted by looking to fund a recount and the rest of the party is looking to spread the blame and find out who didn’t do what.
Bernard (Bernie) Sanders, an Independent, gave criticism to the Democratic Party, which he works with, saying that they did not appeal to people “like him” that being the white male vote. In fact, on November 10th, 2024, AP News said that Trump not only won the White Male vote, but also the Black and Latino male vote.
Then there’s the reaction by people on the ground, Kaden Davis in the 11th grade said “I don’t know too much about politics, but the entire nation is very done for.” Then there’s Juan Llovet who said “Thank god Harris is out of the white house, she was making the entire country look terrible.” As it’s apparent, the Republicans and Trump supporters are, obviously, happy with the outcome. However, the Democrats and Harris supporters have not been so satisfied with the outcome.
Videos and tweets coming from Harris supporters have circulated online for how rambunctious they are. Movements like the 4B movement have seen Harris supporting women, writing off men, long hair, and casual relationships thanks to the Trump win. Then there were riots and protests in places like Philadelphia and New York City that called for Trump to not be President and give Harris the Presidency.
If there’s anything to take away from this election, it’s that the democratic principles of our nation should always be respected, no matter who gets voted into office. There is no difference between the rioters of the 2020 election to the rioters of this 2024 election, democracy is non-negotiable.
