The Philadelphia food tour that the Coral Glades students of newspaper and yearbook had on their trip to Philadelphia happened on Thursday, November seventh was an amazing experience. They got to walk around, try new foods and go to different parts of the city. The group of kids went all around town with their tour guide where he would stop and talk also telling them fun facts about the places he will be taking the kids. One of the fun facts is Philadelphia has the number one coffee store in the world.
The tour guide said downtown Philly, where we were staying, had the number one coffee spot in the world. The name of the store was Ultimo. He said that Philadelphia had the best pretzels in the country and as well as the best pizza. In Philadelphia alone, they sell at least twelve thousand soft pretzels in just one singular day. The tour guide also took the students to a local donut shop called Federal Donuts. The food tour we attended gave us information about not only traditional Philadelphia meals but also the history behind them. The guide that showed us around was very nice and funny, he also stated good facts about different food places. He even quizzed us to see if we really knew about Philly.
Senior Abril Rico says, “It was a great experience, I feel like the best part of the trip was that we could walk around the city and let the tour guide take us to different spots, the best local places to eat. The only problem I have with the tour was the fact that we only had a few minutes to stay in the store and get food before we moved on to the next. I would say if they let us walk around a little longer it would be a 10/10.”
“I went on the trip as well. I ate a real Philly cheesesteak and it was delicious. Some places use mozzarella cheese while others use cheese whiz (which is much tastier in my opinion). We went around to look at famous foods like soft pretzels, pizza, coffee, donuts, and of course, the famous Philly cheesesteak. It is amazing to see all these foods being made regularly over there when down here in Florida, we don’t get to try them. I am so jealous of the people living there that get to experience the tasty foods.” said Manor Pniel, senior.
The Philly food tour was a fun activity that was added to the schedule to take the kids’ mind off newspaper and yearbooks and give them a break. It also gave them the opportunity to see different parts of Philly as they walked around, the students said this was one of their favorite parts of the trip.
