School can be a tough place for most of us whether it’s the amount of assignments you need to complete each week or maybe you can’t seem to stay out of trouble. In school we all face difficulties. It could be the new group of friends you made that are distracting you from completing your assignments on time. This causes you to then fall behind on assignments which later results in you failing the class. You want to make your new friends happy so you do whatever they want, this then leads you to start skipping class, getting into drama, and more.
No one really talks about these challenges students face; it doesn’t just happen in one or two schools but all over the world. Students face so many challenges in school and outside of school that results in them having a hard time thriving in school. Many students have after-school jobs, and some may have jobs just for fun and to earn extra money. But many students have to get jobs to help their parents pay bills and to make sure food gets put on the table. It can be hard to juggle both having a job and being a full-time student.
For some of us, we may think that school comes first, but in many households that’s not the case because some students are forced to take care of their younger siblings, pushing their education to the side to make sure that they can provide for them and their siblings.
Another distraction many students face which doesn’t come as a shock to many of us is social media. This plays a big role in this new generation. Students spend hours and hours scrolling through Instagram, TikTok, and other social media sites instead of completing assignments or even paying attention in class. No matter what you do or say, you still find that students think that being on social media is more important than completing assignments. Social media has become such a big part of this new generation that many of us just don’t know how to function without it.
“School should be the center of our life but things just don’t go that way. We need to find ways to make sure we keep up with our school work and still manage all the other things we have going on in our life,” says Amanda Smith, a junior.
“Schools should give students breaks and understand that many of us have things going on outside of school that might distract us from our school work. I don’t think that schools should just give students a break just because they say they have a lot going on but I believe students should be given a chance to Redeem themselves,” this is what Zoe Lewis said, she’s a senior.
