With a 19% chance of making the playoffs entering week 18, the Dolphins’ existing state has been brought into the public eye. Especially with the rumored potential trade offers with their number 1 receiver Tyreek Hill, who has made it very clear that he has no desire to remain in Miami. To consider his decline in production this season, (959 yards and six touchdowns on 81 catches a year after making 119 catches for 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns) and his $28 million salary-cap hit for 2025.
The team released a statement from team owner Stephen Ross on the 4th addressing the power structure of Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel. They made it very clear that Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel were set to continue to the 2025 season, promising to “make necessary changes”. This statement comes with strong pushback online from fans.
Unfortunately, losing isn’t new to Dolphins fanatics. After almost eight years of losses with no results, having a team of overpaid star players and ignored offense seems to have upset loyal fans. After the blowout that was New York vs. Miami on Sunday night, netizens expected Grier to be fired.
Chris Grier has been the Dolphins’ General manager since 2016. Many Dolphins fans cite how Grier spends money and how he chose to give more money to Tyreek Hill and Jalen Ramsey. He then provided Tua Tagovailoa with a significant contract extension. This new deal features an impressive average value of $53.1 million, setting a record as the highest average for a four-year extension in NFL history.
“Disappointed.” Commented Mr. Rowe when asked about his feelings at the past season. He mentioned his extreme disappointment in the Bills v Dolphins game.
“I’m also disappointed.” Said Paris Crooks, a senior.
In the process, Christian Wilkins was not retained, and Robert Hunt was allowed to walk. The Dolphins seem to be missing Hunt a lot more these days. Robert Hunt is currently a football guard for the Carolina Panthers, and Christian Wilkins plays defensive tackle for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Throughout several drafts since 2022, The Dolphins have failed to pick up newer, younger players. Instead choosing to focus on their older and often hurt players, like Tyreek Hill and Jalen Ramsey. Hill has been battling a wrist injury, which he has said will likely require surgery after the season and for most of the year. Jalen Ramsey has been dealing with a Knee Meniscus Tear since the summer of 2023.
However, the team seems to be built around one player, Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Tua has a lot of good qualities and the offense has been perfectly tailored to his strengths, but his skill set seems just not as dynamic as some of the elite quarterbacks.
Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton implied that the star receiver might be frustrated in part because he didn’t get the ball as often as he would have liked to on Twitter. Tagovailoa averaged 7.2 yards gained per passing attempt after he led the NFL with 8.9 not that long ago in the 2022 campaign. He also averaged 260.6 passing yards per game, a mark that is his lowest since his second season in the league.
Tua Tagovailoa also experienced multiple injuries this year, including a concussion and a hip injury. Tagovailoa suffered a concussion in the second half of a Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills. The concussion landed him on injured reserve, causing him to miss four games.
The draft will begin Apr 24 this year, many fans hope that the Dolphins will learn from past oversights. Although the current power structure remains
