With the most highly anticipated game in the playoffs, even the whole season, being played Sunday, January 26, 2025, 6:40 PM ET, the Buffalo Bills, and the Kansas City Chiefs faced off once again in the AFC championship game. These 2 teams always match up with each other in the playoffs. These 2 superstar teams faced each other 4 times in the playoffs as of recent times.. They’ve faced each other in 2024, 2023, 2021, 2020, which gives Patrick Mahomes a 4-0 record against Josh Allen in the playoffs. However, in the regular season, the 2 teams have also once again faced off 4 times, with the Buffalo Bills winning every one of those 4 games, giving Josh Allen a 4-0 record against Patrick Mahomes in the regular season.
With the game being placed at ‘Chiefs Kingdom’ at Arrowhead Stadium as of January 26, both teams with a tremendous regular season as the Kansas City Chiefs go 15-2 winning out the AFC west and the Buffalo Bills going 13-4 and also winning out their division in the AFC East.
Both teams were highly projected to win the game as the percentage for both teams to win the game was very close to 50-50. Also, both teams having top 5 quarterbacks in the league, Patrick Mahomes for the Chiefs and Josh Allen for the Bills. Patrick Mahomes had a great Regular Season performance with 3,928 yards thrown on 581 attempts, while having a 67.5% completion rate, throwing 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. While on the other hand, Josh Allen had an MVP season, throwing 3,731 yards on 483 attempts with a 63.3 completion rate, while throwing 28 touchdowns, only 6 interceptions the whole season.
“Josh Allen and the Bills tried their best but unfortunately, Patrick Mahomes and his guys just wanted the win more.” Jayce Doctor, a Ssophomore.
The Chiefs ended up pulling out the win barely, winning by just 3, 32-29. It was a close game throughout the whole game. At the end of halftime, it was 16-21 Chiefs were up. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the Bills held the Chiefs to not scoring the whole 3rd quarter which helped give the Bills a one point lead, 22-21 going into the 4th. Unfortunately for the Bills, the Chiefs scored 11 that last quarter while the Bills only scored 7 that quarter, giving the Chiefs a 3 point lead, pulling away for the win
Patrick Mahomes had one of his better games of the season. He mostly threw quick passes, going 18 for 26 for 245 yards and a touchdown, and was much sharper than in the divisional round victory over the Houston Texans . Mahomes also was productive as a runner, getting 43 yards and two rushing touchdowns. The Bills had been effective in eliminating Mahomes as a runner when the teams met in Week 11, holding him without a carry. But Mahomes’ rushing was a big factor in this contest. He not only scored twice, but he converted on fourth-down carry in the second quarter that kept alive a drive that culminated in Kansas City’s second touchdown. The other best performer for the Chiefs was probably Wide Receiver #1, Xavier Worthy. Xavier Worthy ended the game with 6 receptions, 85 yards, and an average of 14.2 yards per catch and a touchdown as well.
On the other hand, Allen threw 22 for 34 for 237 yards, 2 touchdowns for a 64.7% completion rate. He also rushed 11 carries for 39 yards. Allen’s best performer was starting Running Back, #4 James Cook. Cook finished the game with 13 carries on 85 yards for 2 rushing touchdowns, also 3 receptions for 49 yards.
“I think the game was rigged but the Bills also messed up 3 times during the game that would have completely changed the game. The Bills missed a 2-point conversion twice in the game and also missed a very crucial 4th and 1 play that gave the Chiefs the ball back” Evan Turene, freshman.
With the Chiefs getting the win, they will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles next Sunday, February 9th, in Super LIX as they look to get their 3-peat and become a dynasty once and for all.
