To let negativity consume life is simple. In times of quietness and sorrow, a voice must be heard. To be spoken, to be loud and proud. However, it is not as simple as it may be.
Speaking up for one’s self is to realize that one can’t stay on the side. A voice must be heard, if not, it is lost to the sea, falling under the endless blue.
However, to say all have fear is not a true or definite statement. To have fear is to know when something is right, but become nervous and paralyzed from doing it out of what a fear may generate.
The internet, so keen on connection, has made the world; not definite, broken. To bond is to grow close together. The internet leaves nothing but pain, misery, and moral denial.
In an era where time is fast, people tend to find ways to insult each other. Controversy causes judgment. With the internet, insults have become more impactful and negatively well-received.
However, children born not in a time of kid-friendly websites to play in often create exposure. Exposure is good, however, it must be treated properly. If not maintained, it can lead to catastrophic consequences.
However, stars are still there, present every day. Born every moment, yet none are rarely seen. For none give themselves or allow themselves to shine.
Too much exposure can lead to contamination and toxicity in that environment. Too little causes a lack of defense in younger children.
The internet, full of information and knowledge, is a double-edged sword. It may be wielded to save or hurt future generations. Even efforts to help the next are, sadly, being abused by students and others who shelter themselves from responsibility.
Being able to be taught proper exposure can allow younger children born with technology to be more active and aware of their modern-day lives.
Being able to learn how to not be defeated simply by speaking is a useful skill.
To publicly address these issues is another. However, to maintain and nurture that voice is the beauty of public speaking.
To learn how to speak confidently, one must learn to fail. If one may fail, it takes time, but one may eventually succeed. Even if it takes a while, time and dedication create a spoken individual.
Yet people, regardless, let the negativity of life consume them. To be a stranger is to lose an opportunity. An opportunity to speak up.
Times of negativity are times when stars should shine the brightest. Controversy creates tough times for all, it’s how one maintains perseverance that matters. Public speaking is that, a chance to speak up.
Schools nurture this talent well, in schools, public speaking should be considered to be treated with better care and respect. Teachers should enforce or allow students to grow at a young age, while older must learn to grow that strength. Coral Glades debate students share their experiences with becoming public speakers over time.
“It impacts their view on that because it helps speak up and get out of their bubble and to perform for their classes.” Isabella Kaplan, a sophomore, says from her perspective on leaving one’s bubble, it may be better than they expect.
“I don’t know if I was something I wasn’t afraid of, but I was accustomed to it. Over time I had to speak up a lot, not because of debate, I was a self-advocate. I think it has helped me in a lot of situations; doing what I do, really changed me a lot. I don’t think I can ever regret joining the debate, it has had a positive impact on my life.” Asia Williams, a sophomore, speaks on her growth and extension of her talents through public speaking classes.
Public speaking is a gift, not a curse. Times like today call for the toughest warriors, for an individual is all it takes to bring change. All people must do is take it.
