With the girl’s flag football team having an alright season last year, they have made their way back, so far only losing their first game of the season to Stoneman Douglas, ever since then, the team hasn’t lost since, going 6-0 and shutting down every single team they played and holding them to 0 points every game so far.
They have beaten every team so far by at least two touchdowns with their lowest-scoring blowout being 18-0 against Cooper City High.
“I think having a coach that actually cares for us as a team has played a big part in our success this year. Everyone had worked hard for their spots and really showed out, demonstrating what they bring to the team. I’m overly grateful for being able to play with these girls for my senior season.” Angelina Thomason, senior center and defensive back.
The team’s chemistry has been great and every individual on the team has been performing well, especially sophomore quarterback, Noel Thomas. Noel leads the team in seven different stats. She leads in rushing yards per game with 30.1 and has 241 rushing yards so far on the season, total touchdowns with 4, interceptions with 11, and 218 receiving yards off of an interception. Also, passing touchdowns as well with 2, rushing touchdowns with 1, completion percentage with a high 65% completion pass rate, and her QB rate is at 103 and all of this has been accomplished in just eight games so far.
“I came into this job just trying to get these girls better and help them make it to the next level. My goal was to succeed better than last season as a team and do my best as the new head coach of the team.” Coach Magnuson, Jag Girl’s new flag football head coach.
Whatever Coach Magnuson and the girls are doing differently this year compared to last year is working and they need to keep it up as they look to finish this season strong.
I asked Aisha Young about how she feels about the team’s success this season, they’ve done better this year than last year and she said, “We are definitely better than last year for sure. We bond better as a team which helps us grow as a team. I love our team’s chemistry and every single person on the team plays their position perfectly that’s why we are succeeding and blowing teams out and holding them to zero points since the first game of the season and we are going to continue to keep shutting every single team down.”
The team’s success has been great and better than ever and looks to continue this track.
