The Coral Glades boys’ basketball team never stops working. After a great run, the Jaguars got right back to work a few days after their last game of the season. The work the Jaguars have been putting in this off-season is for this summer and the upcoming season. They are determined to get better every week moving forward. They have a group of hard-working coaches who help all the players develop into stronger, faster, more athletic basketball players.
This season the Jaguars did a few things that have never been done at Coral Glades. The Jags are the first team to win a regional game and the first team to win 20 games in one season. They are also the second team in Coral Glades history to win a district championship. It has been a historic few months this season but the Jags still believe they came up short this season by not making it to the regional championship or the state games.
While achieving great milestones, Head Coach Stefan Whittingham also reached a milestone by becoming the fastest Coral Glades coach to win 50 games. Coach Ham is also two wins away from becoming Coral Glade’s all-time most-winningest coach. Coach Ham has done this in only 3 seasons at Coral Glades. His incredible coaching and recruitment show every season. He also keeps a strong assistant coaching staff on his side every year. With all the hard work the coaches put into this program there is no stopping them any time soon.
I asked Gavin Reed, one of three captains last season how he feels about starting off-season workouts so early. This is what he had to say, “I think starting this earlier is like getting a head start over every team in Florida. There is no team that works as hard as us and all the work will show.” Gavin Reed is a key component for the success of this Coral Glades team. He is the starting point guard and captain for the Jaguars. Gavin believes the hard work that you put in always shows when it matters most.
Ethan Jean-Louis, the starting center class of 2027 had a big improvement from this season to last season. He told me how he feels about off-season work, he said “I like everything we are doing. We do basketball skill training to perfect our craft, conditioning to have better stamina, and weight lifting to get stronger for the season. It really helps us and gets us better.”
With all these things that the Jags are doing, don’t be surprised for a major upcoming season again as they look to go back to back for districts and look to go even further for their regional run.
