This production of Mean Girls is a Broadway musical turned high school friendly that is based on the 2004 film of the same name by Mark Walters and written by Tina Fey, who also wrote the Broadway musical adaptation of Mean Girls. Tina Fey was also in the movie as the main teacher, Ms. Norbury. Along with being a writer, Tina Fey is also a producer and comedian. Other films she has written consists of Megamind, Baby Mama, Date Night, Muppets Most Wanted, Sisters, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Wine Country, A Haunting in Venice, and Soul. She was also one of the first female head writers for the sketch comedy SNL.

I’m so excited to be playing the role of Gretchen and rehearsing for the past 2 months has been such an amazing experience that I will never forget,” said Melanie Lemus, a freshman.

Mean Girls is about a girl named Cady Heron who moved to America and attended a public high school after being homeschooled for her entire life. Entering a new school with no social experience is a challenge, so the musical also focuses on the friends and social life Cady creates for herself. Cady befriends the outcasts of her school, Janis Sarkisian and Damian Hubbard. Cady also befriends a clique of three popular and entitled girls who take her in to help her while also making fun of her at times. The three girls are Gretchen Weiners, Karen Smith, and the queen bee who socially dominates the school, Regina George.

“Mean Girls is one of my favorite movies and I’m also a big fan of musicals so I love how Men Girls is also  musical, and I am so excited to go see our school perform Mean Girls!” Said Anna Sherwin, a freshman.

The Coral Glades drama cast of Mean Girls is Addyson Baldwin as Cady, Madison Joseph as Regina, Ivy Levine as Janis, Darien Qualles as Damian, Melanie Lemus as Gretchen, Abigail Miller as Karen, Stephen Karow as Aaron, Isabella Jagan as Mrs. George, Vivian Marsiello as Ms. Norbury/ Mrs. Heron, Keon Silas as Mr. Duvall, and Malakai Rosemey as Kevin G.
