Endless buildings, countless pieces, and many hours of fun creations. The BRICK Shop opened on Labor Day weekend, August 30th. The BRICK Shop is also labeled as one of its kind in South Florida.
LEGO is a hugely popular toy among kids. Kids can either buy a set and follow the instructions, or they can freestyle it and create whatever they want to their heart’s desire. The BRICK Shop is different because it sells hundreds of unique pieces sold nowhere else. Also, they provide a space for builders to build their masterpieces. The BRICK Shop is owned by the Forthofer family, whose business has been up for a long number of 16 years. He also has a YouTube channel called The Brick Show, founded by Stephen Forthofer.
The BRICK Shop could have a great impact on our community. The BRICK Shop could become a new hangout place for kids who love LEGOs. It could also produce more interest in engineering or creativity, and it could bring more recognition to small builders. Freshman, Julian Perez said, “For me personally, the Walmarts and Targets don’t have many LEGO sets I want. With The BRICK Shop being local, I can buy any individual pieces I want and the exclusive sets.” Many guests from far away, even from Germany, have traveled down to see and check out the one-of-a-kind store in South Florida. On the opening day, LEGO master builders and YouTube influencers showed up to give support and participate in the party they threw on August 31st and September 1st.
I grew up playing with LEGOs. It was a key event in my life that helped me develop more skills in life. I asked freshman Dylan Slattery, “Why did you like LEGOs as a child? ” He said, “LEGOs were a fun never-ending toy for me. I could never get bored with them because if I didn’t like one build, then I would just create a new one with my imagination.” LEGOs not only helped with boredom they could have also helped with reading comprehension. Those long instruction pages you had to read helped us as children. If you look at it that way LEGOs can also be a form of art. People build life-scaled “art” projects for many weeks, even years. Once they build their “art” they showcase it and be proud of it.
With the opening day ending up to be a great success, The BRICK shop is sure to become a great place in the community where everyone will be accepted. Maybe The BRICK shop could become worldwide, from our very own hometown Coral Springs.
