The Conjuring Returns

Horror fans, get your popcorn ready- the Warrens are back. The new Conjuring just hit theaters this past weekend. The Conjuring: Last Rites continues the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren as they face yet another terrifying case, including real-life paranormal events with their own spooky twists. Student Haleigh Thomas, class of 2026, stated, “I was so excited to watch the movie until I saw people were getting possessed from watching it.”

The movie takes you back in time when Ed and Lorranie Warren faced an interesting case involving an antique mirror found in a shop in their area. When Lorraine Warren slightly touched this antique, she got a triggering and horrifying vision. This caused her to collapse to the ground and go into prelabor. Lorraine had no choice but to deliver her child even though there were still months till her due date. When Lorraine gave birth, her child was unresponsive. While the doctors worked on her child, Lorraine was screaming and crying in pain over the loss of their child. The warrens requested to hold their child so they could pray over her. They prayed so hard that their prayers brought their child back to life. After this emotional experience, the family decided to name their miracle child Judy Warren. Student Logan Miller, class of 2028, stated. “I felt an odd connection with the pain the family was feeling because of how great actors they are.”

After this moment, the movie takes you twenty-two years forward into 1986. At this time, a family had just opened a new chapter in their lives by moving into a new home in Pennsylvania. The family’s one daughter, Heather Smurl, had just gotten her confirmation. The family decided to celebrate this very special moment for their daughter, so they had a small party in their new home with some of their family.

The daughter was given an old antique mirror by her grandparents. Right off the bat, Heather had a weird feeling about the gift because she said it looked creepy. On top of the mirror, three angles gavethere were three angles that gave her that creepy feeling. She said the middle angle looks like it’s staring right at her. Later that night, the family brought out a cake for Heather after opening presents. While Heather went to blow out her candles, she had thought her younger sister had blown them out, causing them to argue. This is when the first paranormal activity started.

After a few days of having the mirror, Heather decided to throw it away because she didn’t like it. Little did she know that throwing away that mirror would be the worst decision she could have ever made. The following day, Heather was eating breakfast with her family. Heather started to choke on what she thought was food. Heather pulled out a piece of glass covered with blood from her mouth. Once she pulled out the first piece, she continued to throw up blood. The mother rushed to the hospital with her daughter. Student Jordin Shurpin, class of 2026, stated. “This was one of the best movies I’ve watched in a long time.”

After lots of horrifying events at the house, Judy, the daughter of the Warrens, decided to take charge of this spirit. The parents of Judy were not okay with this. Ed and Lorraine later show up at the house to take control of the spirit. After hours of fighting, this spirit was gone. At the end, the Warren family found out that the same mirror Lorraine had touched back in 1964 was still going out for them until 1986. The spirit has it out for Judy. The spirit got to Judy, almost causing her death. Ed Warren prayed over the spirit, causing it to leave her soul, saving her.
