Should students receive service hours for selling fundraiser snacks and candy in and outside of school?
Students are always told to sell items to raise money for clubs, field trips, etc. and sometimes they are not involved in the activities, but they help raise the money. Shouldn’t those students get service hours in return?
“I agree that students should get volunteer hours! It takes a lot to sell things at school because it can be hard socializing with people you do not know, “says Kimoralyn Jackson, Junior.
“Service hours would be an amazing compensation for selling and raising money for clubs, “says Renaja Hall, Sophomore “Not only would this make us more willing to do so, but it would also be an amazing way to learn new skills such as communication, learning more about money, and many more!”
Service hours are given to students who take the time out of their day to help teachers during or after school, cleaning their community, helping with concessions and lots more.
Many high school students have after school activities, and even jobs! Meaning that some may not have the time to get service hours because of what they do outside of school.
“I think that being a part of a team and helping a team, we should be able to receive service hours for selling and providing for others” says Kimoralyn Jackson, Junior
Receiving volunteer hours would be a good idea for schools to give in return to students who fundraise because students put a lot of effort into selling on campus.
It can get very stressful going to different lunches, constantly walking up to people asking if they want to buy a snack for a dollar, and not selling the product fast enough because you ran out of the certain item they want.
“If we are helping people raise money for their good, they should help us with ours and give us service hours!” says Renaja Hall, Sophomore
“Students who have worked hard selling these snacks feel like we do all of this just too not really get anything from it.” says Renaja Hall, Sophomore “Just one service hour for every box we sell would make us feel greatly appreciated.”
