Mrs. Sandmire, a Spanish teacher from Coral Glades thinks that being a member of the Spanish Honor Society can offer several benefits. This includes academic recognition, the opportunity to participate in cultural and community service projects, as well as the ability to apply for scholarships related to Spanish and Hispanic culture. Often has various levels of membership, from beginner to advanced, allowing students of different levels of Spanish language ability to participate
The Spanish Honor Society (SHS) was founded in 1953 by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) and has grown to include thousands of chapters in middle and high schools around the world. Local SHS chapters often organize a variety of activities, such as cultural events, talks, film screenings, field trips, and community projects that promote appreciation and understanding of Hispanic culture.
Fabiana Kojakovic from grade 12, and club president says. ‘’the Hispanic Honor Society is an organization that recognizes and celebrates academic achievement in the study of Spanish and Hispanic culture and offers students opportunities to deepen their appreciation and knowledge of the Hispanic language and culture. Additionally, at our school, we are trying to make a little more known about our Hispanic culture so that other people become interested in learning Spanish and join our club. We want everyone to feel part of the Hispanic society with honors. a place for everyone.’’
