This weekend Coral Glades DECA went to states in Orlando.
A couple of months ago the scores came out for the papers people wrote and the testing scores of the people who made it to states to compete or who made it on the alternatives list.
At states, you can either do a roleplay or have a paper to present in many different categories. For example, you can do a roleplay on hospitality. For the roleplay, you can make a script and act out the scenario or you could also try to fix the situation that you are put in by the background knowledge they give you.
Ana Buitrago, a freshman said, “It’s a great opportunity for people interested in business or anything in that type of industry”.
An example of what you can do for a paper would be to write about a specific company. This could be a bank like Chase or a restaurant like Ben and Jerry’s.
Isabella Rosina, a freshman said “Me and my partner did not make it to states but I am so happy for everyone who qualified for states and who are going to ICDC”
The people who got to go to states went for a three-day weekend in Orlando, and they also got to go to Disney Springs.
There were forty people from Coral Glades DECA who went on this trip. Thirteen of them won and are now going to nationals, which is called International Career Development Conference (ICDC).
Elijah Cambell, senior, said, “I am not in DECA so I am not really aware of when they went, but I have a lot of school spirit so I am glad so many of our students are going to nationals.”
The trip to states by the Coral Glades DECA chapter not only encouraged a spirit of competition but also lit a spark of inspiration and aspirations in the business world. The Coral Glades DECA team celebrates their win in Orlando. They are now prepared to take on the challenges and opportunities that are ahead when they go to ICDC.
