In high school, students are always encouraged to join clubs and extracurricular activities in order for them to beef up their college applications and have experience doing things that might help them in the future. This is why some students join clubs, to begin with, but others actually enjoy the activities and clubs they partake in.
Some clubs attract students by having fun events that students can attend and they often provide what everyone would want which would be food or service hours. Beyond just joining a club to gain something that you need, most students have a strong and personal interest in the clubs they choose to join. Hobbies are things that some students do not get to spend time doing, so knowing that there is a club that students can participate in helps them do what they love while still having time for everything else they need to do.
Hobbies like singing, dancing, cooking, sports, drawing, or coding are examples of many things that most students love to do and in high school, they have a real opportunity to take these things seriously since there is a wide variety of clubs available. In middle school, there might not be all of these options for different clubs, so as soon as students become high schoolers they can take immediate interest in clubs that they never had a chance to be in before.
“Last year the school that I was at did not really have a bunch of clubs and there was not the club that I wanted to join, so joining a club that I really enjoy was one of my favorite things about coming to high school.” Aaliyah O’Keffe, a freshman said.
A student who really loves a hobby such as performing, can learn how to be better at performing and have experiences by joining a club that focuses on those activities, like drama club. “I do think I need the clubs that offer service hours, but other than that I love joining clubs that seem interesting because then I can find new things that I like and add to the list of hobbies I love to do.” Said by Rihanna Edwards, a freshman.
Other than loving the activities that clubs offer, these activities can help students with their well-being, physically and mentally. Students can also love clubs because of how they make them feel and can change a student’s attitude for the better. Other students love to take their extracurriculars seriously so they feel like they have a purpose and something to do all the time. This helps with getting ready for the real world, helping students be responsible if they really are interested in the clubs they choose to join. Most students are interested in everything they do which makes clubs all the more worth their while.
