This article is about a talented, hard-working girl named Allura Buelvas. Allura is a junior here at Coral Glades High School. Not only does she know what she wants from her school career right now, but she also has a plan, with all of the pieces to get her to where she wants to be in the future.
Allura is an amazing lacrosse player; she is a 3rd season veteran for Glades and plays for the Florida Prime Lacrosse team as well. Along with this, she has verbally committed to Kennesaw State University in Georgia, A D1 school for lacrosse.
Now seeing as Allura is in the early half of her junior year why would she verbally commit to KSU? Well, it’s simple. When you know what you want you go for it, and that’s just what she did.
I asked Allura to answer this question for me and here’s what she told me, “ I love the team culture, school, and location. Many D1 schools are also very worried about what classes you take to preserve their team GPA but the coaches at KSU would allow me to major in harder classes like engineering.”
Showing that not only is she passionate about her sport but also she is keeping the focus on all the aspects of college setting herself up for success in the future, including what she wants to major in for college.
“I’m going to major in Environmental Engineering. I want to major in Environmental Engineering because I have always loved engineering and how things work but have a passion for the environment and how we affect it.”
Allura is someone who is very involved with anything she does. She fully dives deep into the topic and doesn’t give up until she has gotten to the place she wants. Whether this be on the lacrosse field, in the classroom, or participating in clubs and organizations.
Allura is a member of both the National Honor Society and the National Tech Honor Society. Along with this, she volunteers at the Museum of Science and Discovery. She is a dedicated piece in her community.
Now, she has been playing lacrosse since 7th grade. She plays for Florida Prime Lacrosse, while also playing as a 3rd year veteran for Coral Glades. Florida Prime Lacrosse is a high-level lacrosse team for the Broward County area that specializes in girls’ lacrosse.
I asked Allura why she wanted to join lacrosse in the first place, she told me, “I started to play lacrosse after losing my love for karate and want to do something else with a team. I knew a friend that played and decided to join.”
Meaning that her drive to continue being part of team sports has taken her to a place that many players dream of. Allura is kind and dedicated. She tries to spread her knowledge and skill to any of the other players wherever she is needed. She teaches and guides with a certain confidence that allows you to put your trust in her.
I have had the pleasure of getting to know Allura personally and have asked many others’ opinions on how they see Allura and the praise for her is overwhelming. She is a kind, compassionate, and sincere person. She has an amazing character and athletic ability. She deserves all the good things coming her way in the next few years.
So congratulations Allura Buelvas, on all the things you will do in the upcoming years, good luck and enjoy!
