At Coral Glades, there’s one club that has started up, and it’s not what you would expect. It is a Crochet Club. And it’s definitely way cooler than it sounds.
The club is basically a chill place where students come together with yarn, crochet, and use a ton of creativity. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been doing it for years or if you don’t even know how to; everyone’s welcome. Beginners probably start out learning simple stitches, while members with more experience go all in with big things like sweaters, blankets, or even stuffed animals. They also take the finished products and donate them.
What’s fun about the Crochet Club is how calm it is. Meetings aren’t super serious or stressful. You just sit down, start working on something, and chill out. People joke around, help each other when they get stuck, and celebrate when someone finally finishes their project. Honestly, it’s a great way to relax after school when your brain feels tired from homework. Crochet Club also created a TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, and Instagram to help with knitting tutorials, just in case you need help with anything that they do, or if you missed a day of the club, you can catch up with what you missed.
But it’s not just about making cool stuff for yourself. So while members are having no fun creating, they’re also helping people who need it. It’s a great way to wind down; you get better at crocheting, and someone else gets something made with care. Knitting
Seeing what other students can make out of just yarn is honestly impressive. It’s art, and it’s personal. The club just recently held their first meeting on September 3rd, and a lot of people enjoyed it. They have another meeting on September 10th after school. Hopefully, more people will show up and have a great time again.
At the end of the day, Crochet Club is more than just crocheting; it’s about finding a space where people can hang out, be themselves, and learn something new. Whether you’re there to make friends, relieve some stress, or just try something different, it’s the kind of club where everyone can fit in.
So, if you’re at Coral Glades and want to join something fun, cool, and actually creative, Crochet Club might just be the move. Who knew yarn could bring people together?
Mrs. Ofri stated that she is ”pleasantly surprised to be in charge of a fiber arts class like crochet. 45 students showed up to the first meeting. And we are excited to make some blankets to donate to pet shelters.”
Jaden Bennet said he was very excited to join the club, and he can’t wait to get going and go to more club meetings.
