The Moss Club is a school safety club. Moss stands for “make our school safe”. This safety club was just brought into our school last year. This club was created after the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas.
This club is hoping that nothing like that tragic day happens again in our community. This club promotes inclusivity along with safety measures. There have been so many tragedies lately that this club is more important than ever. This club is great to join if you are interested in making a difference in the community. The club has events such as a harvest drive where you can donate pasta, canned goods, and even toiletries.
Last year they did an ice-skating event to raise money for their club. They even go to events to raise money and show support for school safety. One of the events they attended was at the parkland farmers market where they volunteered their time there. A school safety club is so important because who doesn’t want to feel safe while attending school.
There have been many measures this year that have made the school safer. We now have metal detectors to make sure no contraband gets into our school. This should make students feel way safer now. They even have a metal detector in the office so visitors who enter must go through. If the metal detectors go off, they have the right to search your bag to double-check if nothing dangerous is in there.
Here is a quote from one of the co-presidents of Moss Club, Jewel Dezard “I am glad to be the president of such a great club and I take pride in the fact that this club promotes school safety and was created for such a great reason.” I agree with this quote: this club has a great impact on the community, especially being so close to Marjory Stoneman Douglas.
This club makes students feel safer, especially since they can take part in it, and they can know that their opinions matter. We are now the next generation, so we have to take the lead in doing what we want to do. Moss is big on supporting the tragedy on Valentine’s Day at the high school Marjory Stoneman Douglas since it was created to honor Alyssa and the others who were affected by the tragedy.
One of the popular hashtags that is used to spread awareness for the incident is #NEVERAGAIN. A quote from Sarah Singh who is the Vice president of the club “I am glad to contribute to such an important club and I am glad to help to spread awareness for safety issues in our community. This shows how being a part of moss is great for the community.
