The first game of the 2024-25 WNBA finals coming to an end, it was an insane ending going into overtime ending in a close game with the Minnesota Lynx pulling away the win, winning the game 95 to 93 taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
With the game being neck and neck the whole time the New York Liberty’s found themselves up by 3 with about 7 seconds.
Star player for the Liberty’s, Sabrina Ionescu, scoring 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, while playing 41 minutes of the game. Another star player who stood out was Breanna Stewart who scored 18 points, 3 assists, and 9 rebounds, coming close to a double-double, in 43 minutes. But the player who achieved the most for New York was Jonquel Jones, who in just 39 minutes, scored 24 points, 3 assists, and 10 rebounds getting a double-double for her team. Unfortunately, this couldn’t get it done for them to help them secure the win.
“I didn’t watch much of it but the parts that I did watch were very exciting, both teams scoring on both ends of the floor going back and forth the whole game and making the game exciting to watch for all fans.” Donovan Swain, sophomore.
On the other hand, the Minnesota Lynx had a couple of players who showed out in game 1 of the WNBA Finals. Forward, Napheesa Collier had 21 points, 2 assists, and 8 rebounds, nearing a double-double in just 43 minutes. Another key factor to this team that had a good night was shooting guard Kayla Mcbride, who scored a good 22 points, 4 assists and 2 rebounds in 43 minutes. But out of all of them, the one who stood out the most and was the main contribution to the Minnesota Lynx taking the win, was point guard, Courtney Williams. Courtney Williams was the lead scorer of the night for the Minnesota Lynx and had a good 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and an insane 4-point play to give the Minnesota Lynx a 1-point lead with the last 4 seconds of the game.
“I don’t really watch the WNBA but I lowkey started watching it because of the excitement it brings. The games are more intense and back and forth and the rookies are awesome. The last game was awesome, for it being the first game it was awesome.” Cole Fisher, Junior.
This is gonna be a great series and I can see this series going all the way to 5 games and I believe the New York Liberty’s will win it all.
