On March 1st, 2026, the SAG Awards, now known as the Actor Awards, took place. The Actor Awards are presented by SAG-AFTRA, an American labor union representing 160,000 individuals involved in the entertainment industry, and they honor the individuals who make movies. Let’s look at some of the big winners from the event.
Ryan Coogler’s Sinners was one of the big winners of the night, winning 2 awards, including “Cast in a Motion Picture” and “Male Actor in a Leading Role,” with Michael B. Jordan winning the Male Actor award. Other actors who won major awards include Seth Rogen, Noah Wyle, and the late Catherine O’Hara.
Michael B. Jordan made an appearance at the ceremony and gave his acceptance speech when receiving the “Male Actor in a Leading Role” award. He said, “I’m so honored and privileged to be nominated in categories with people, actors, and humans that I love. And I love their work and what you contribute to our craft.”
The award for Best Movie went to Coogler’s Sinners, earning a standing ovation from the entire crowd in attendance. The movie was very well received by the public, earning a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, one of the most popular websites for movie ratings. With this praise, many people have considered Sinners the best movie to be released in 2025.
Seth Rogen’s hit show The Studio won the most awards out of any TV show in attendance that night, including “Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series,” with Rogen winning “Best Actor in a Comedy Series.” The show received positive reviews from viewers, earning an 8.1/10 on IMDb and a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Many actors won awards in this ceremony, and here are some of them. As mentioned before, “Best Actor in a Movie” went to Michael B. Jordan for Sinners. American actor Sean Penn won “Best Supporting Actor in a Movie” with his role as Steven J. Lockjaw in One Battle After Another. “Best Actor in a TV Movie or Limited Series” went to Owen Cooper for his role in Adolescence, making history as the youngest person to win an Actor Award, at 16 years old. Noah Wyle won “Best Actor in a TV series” for his performance in The Pitt, and Seth Rogan won “Best Actor in a Comedy series” for The Studio, as stated before.
The women also won big that night, with Jessie Buckley winning “Best Actress in a Movie” for her role in Hamnet. Amy Madigan won “Best Supporting Actress in a Movie” for Weapons, which was well-received, earning a 7.1/10 on IMDb. The late Catherine O’Hara won “Best Actress in a Comedy” for her role in The Studio. O’Hara was a popular actress who appeared in many comedy films, with her most notable one being Home Alone. She tragically passed away earlier in January 2026 at the age of 71.
Seth Rogen went and accepted the award on O’Hara’s behalf and delivered a heartfelt speech to honor her. He said, “I know she would have been honored to receive this award from her fellow performers, who I know she respected so much. She was such a big fan of all of yours.”
There were many other awards handed out that night, but we don’t have time to talk about them. What did you think of the ceremony? Was it fair, or did some people not deserve to win?
