Are Movie Theaters Slowly Fading Away?

Are+Movie+Theaters+Slowly+Fading+Away%3F

Movie theaters have been around for centuries, but recently it has been noticed that people aren’t attending them as much anymore. Most people now would rather stay home and watch movies from the comfort of their homes. This lack of attendance at these movie theaters is mainly because of streaming services and of course laziness.

Could this be the end of Movie Theaters? Is it really worth going anymore?

The Takeover of Streaming Services

We all have our favorite streaming services, such as Hulu or Netflix. These services provide many original movies but eventually, movies that were once in theaters, become available for purchase or free with subscription.

Since everyone knows this, they choose to wait so that they can watch their desired movie at home. Why is this, You may ask?

Well, it all depends. Some people have situations that prevent them from going out, others are too lazy but the main reason is that it’s too expensive to go to the movies nowadays. The prices can range from $11.25 to $28, depending on the movie theater. Now $11 doesn’t seem that expensive but compared to how much the movie costs on streaming services, it is.

“I feel like it’s nice to get out of the house to go see a movie, even if the prices are higher. It is convenient to watch from home but I prefer going to the movie theaters.”  said sophomore, Leila Price

It’s a pretty smart tactic. The streaming services add those same movies but for a lower cost.

Effects of the Decline

Movies do not stay in the theaters for long like they used to. Very recently, movies started to be in theaters for only a week. They become available for streaming almost instantly after it’s released.

“I definitely won’t be surprised if movie theaters close in the future. It seems like no one really goes anymore.” Jason Rivera, junior, said.

This is due to the rise in streaming services. It will also possibly run some movie theaters out of business. People used to wait months for it to be put on streaming but now that the wait is only a couple of days, even less people will be attending theaters.
