My Breakup with High School

My+Breakup+with+High+School

Dear Juniors,

Writing this letter is going to be one of the hardest things I have done all year due to my emotional attachment to not only this class but the school and you guys. I have been in the newspaper class here at Glades for the past 4 years and I am the current, soon-to-be former, co-editor of the class.

Over the years, I have grown so attached to Mrs. Hodge and the students in the class. I have made some of my favorite memories in the newspaper and that is where I met some of my best friends throughout high school, and beyond. This year in particular has been my favorite, as I was able to make a lot more friends, and being in charge of the class was hectic, yet fun at the same time.

Juniors that are reading this, I want to leave some tips that I believe will be helpful when you are going through your senior year. The first tip I would 100% recommend is to participate in as many things as you possibly can. Don’t feel shy when it comes to things you haven’t done before or aren’t used to because the year is going to fly by and you don’t want to have any regrets when it comes to looking back at your last year in high school. Another thing is the infamous “senioritis” which is going to hit you. The feeling of not showing up and not doing work is gonna be there but you need to push through and be at school and do your work because slipping up in your last year of high school affects the colleges you get into and your GPA. My last tip is to be involved in clubs around the school. Participating in clubs and getting cords looks good not only at graduation but at college as well because you show that you are a student who likes to have school spirit and participate.

Focus on your grades and passing all of your classes, not just the core ones. Finishing your last year in high school is important since high schools are still going to want to see your final transcript. Junior year is the most important but you do not want to start dropping senior year.

Every person has their own high school experience and my high school experience was really good. I have been going to Glades since freshman year, which was online so I only have 3 years to experience it in person. My classes have ranged from honors to AICE and AP classes and even though these classes are tough, the teachers are good at preparing you for the exams at the end of the year. Throughout my high school experience, I never really had any bad moments. You have the typical drama in the friend groups but that can be bound to happen and I never had any bad moments inside of my classes.

Coral Glades High School has been my home for the past 4 years and it has provided me with so many opportunities that I am so thankful and happy I chose to come to this school for my high school experience. My favorite memory has to be the Boston trip that the newspaper and yearbook class took in November of 2023. The 5-day trip was so fun and I made so many memories from that trip alone. I made many bonds that I am so thankful for and I got to go out of state with my friends on a trip.

I am really sad that I have to write this because I know my time is coming to an end. It was so fun being able to make so many memories and create so many friendships here and it genuinely breaks me knowing I’m going to have to leave. One thing that does make me feel better is knowing I’m leaving this place in good hands with the upcoming seniors. You all are going to do amazing and I hope you have the best senior year ever!

Love, Jaden Torres
